Smoke & CO Detector Hardwiring in Atlanta, GA

Interconnected hardwired smoke and combination CO detectors with battery backup, placed and wired to current residential code.

Smoke & CO Detector Hardwiring performed by Apex Power Solutions LLC in Atlanta, GA.

Modern residential code requires smoke alarms in every sleeping room, outside each separate sleeping area, and on every level of the home. When one alarm sounds, every alarm in the system has to sound — that interconnection is what wakes a household before smoke reaches the bedroom doors.

Apex Power Solutions hardwires interconnected smoke and combination smoke/CO alarms on a dedicated circuit with battery backup. Every device is installed at the placement distances and ceiling clearances called for by the residential code adopted in your jurisdiction.

What's Included

  • Dedicated 15A circuit for smoke / CO alarms or extension of an existing lighting circuit
  • Interconnect cable (14-3 NM-B) run between every device so a single alarm sounds all units
  • Combination smoke / CO units placed within 10 ft of every sleeping room
  • Mounting at code-required distances from ceilings, corners, and HVAC supply registers
  • Battery backup confirmed in every device at completion
  • System-wide test from each unit to verify all others sound

  • Listed octagon ceiling boxes appropriate for the device base

Safety & Compliance

  • Placement per IRC R314 / R315 location rules and manufacturer instructions
  • CO alarms placed near sleeping areas and on every level with a fuel-burning appliance
  • Interconnect verified at completion by triggering each device and confirming all alarms sound

Questions about Smoke / CO Detectors

Q: Can battery-only alarms be replaced with hardwired ones in an older home?

A: Yes. We fish a 14-3 interconnect cable between locations and extend power from an existing lighting circuit or run a dedicated circuit, then mount hardwired devices with battery backup at each code-required location.

Q: Do all alarms need to sound when one is triggered?

A: Yes — that is the point of interconnection and is required by current code. A bedroom alarm has to sound when a basement alarm trips, because by the time smoke from the basement reaches the bedroom it may be too late.

Q: How often should alarms be replaced?

A: Smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years and CO alarms every 5–7 years per the device label. We note the install date during the visit so future replacement is easy to track.
